How it works

How self-paced classes work

Choose your length, complete your enrollment, and learn at your own pace. Your certificate is ready the moment you pass.

A one-minute walkthrough, narrated, with captions. Select a step to jump to it.

Who it's for

Is this the right class for you?

Yes, if your paperwork asks for an anger management class and doesn't name a specific program.

  • A court order A judge ordered an anger management class as part of your sentence or case.
  • Probation A condition of your probation. Your officer can check the certificate online.
  • Pretrial intervention (PTI) or diversion A PTI, pretrial diversion or deferred prosecution agreement that asks for an anger management class.
  • Before your court date Your attorney suggested finishing a class before you see the judge.
  • Family court or CPS A custody order or CPS service plan that lists anger management.

Not a domestic violence program. If your paperwork names an Intimate Partner Abuse Education Program (IPAEP), this class won't replace it.

Serving courts across Massachusetts

From the District Court's 62 divisions statewide to the Boston Municipal Court in the City of Boston, Massachusetts students finish this class online, then send the certificate straight to the judge or probation officer who ordered it — supervised by the Massachusetts Probation Service, the nation's oldest probation agency, established in 1878 — who can verify it on the spot.

Near you — or anywhere

Told to find a class “near you”? Online counts.

Massachusetts courts routinely accept online anger management classes in place of a local program — no evening drive into a District Court division across Middlesex or Worcester County, no waiting for the next session to open in Springfield or Lowell. You take the same court-accepted class from home, on any device, and the certificate reads the same everywhere in the Commonwealth.

Massachusetts runs criminal cases through District Court divisions statewide (or the Boston Municipal Court within the City of Boston), with probation conditions set and monitored by the Massachusetts Probation Service. If your paperwork says “local” or “in your county,” check with your probation officer first — most accept online completion, and ours is backed by our Court Acceptance Guarantee.

What makes this class court-accepted in Massachusetts

Why certificates get turned down. A court or PO can turn a certificate down when its hours don't match the order, when no one can confirm who issued it, or when the order names a specific program.

A free or bargain class that skips those basics can mean taking the class twice. Ours states your hours, names a provider your clerk can look up, and gives your PO an ID to verify. If your order names a program, check with your officer first.

The hours match your order. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24-hour versions — pick the length your judge or probation officer specified, and the certificate states it plainly.

Real curriculum, licensed authorship. Built and reviewed by licensed clinicians — the certificate carries a real provider your court can look up, not a rubber stamp.

Verifiable in seconds. Every certificate has a unique ID your court clerk or PO can check at courseable.com/certificate-validation — no phone calls, no faxes.

Proof from day one. Need to show your Massachusetts court progress before you finish? Answer a few quick questions after you enroll, and your enrollment letter is emailed to you right away.

Common Questions

Detailed answers about our court-approved anger management course.

Will Massachusetts courts accept this certificate?

Yes — backed by our Court Acceptance Guarantee. Our anger management certificates are accepted by courts in all 50 states, Massachusetts included, and students complete them for District Court divisions and the Boston Municipal Court across the Commonwealth. Full refund if your court doesn't accept it — send us proof within 30 days. That's our written guarantee.

My case involves a restraining order or domestic violence — can I use this class for my Massachusetts order?

No — Massachusetts law says so explicitly. Under M.G.L. c. 209A, § 7, a defendant convicted of violating an abuse-prevention order must complete a certified batterer's intervention program, and the statute states plainly that "the court shall not order substance abuse or anger management treatment ... as a substitute for certified batterer's intervention." The required program is the Intimate Partner Abuse Education Program (IPAEP) — certified or provisionally certified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) — delivered as weekly, in-person group sessions totaling 80 hours over roughly 40 weeks. This class is not that program, and it cannot substitute for it.

If your case stems from a 209A restraining order or a domestic-violence-related conviction, contact your attorney or probation officer for the DPH's list of certified IPAEP providers before you enroll anywhere. If your order simply says "anger management" outside of a domestic-violence context, this class is built for exactly that — and if you'd like a second pair of eyes on the wording first, contact our support team.

Will this class satisfy a Massachusetts court or probation order?

Our money-back guarantee covers you either way. Massachusetts gives judges and probation officers broad discretion here, so the judge or probation officer on your case makes the call. Conditions of probation may include participation in “specified rehabilitative programs” under M.G.L. c. 276, § 87A, and there's no single statewide standard for general anger-management classes (unlike domestic-violence cases — see above). If your paperwork names a specific program or says “in person,” check your specific court order or ask your probation officer whether an online class satisfies your condition before you enroll. Either way, request written confirmation of completion for your file. Full refund if your court doesn't accept it — send us proof within 30 days.

What Massachusetts courts handle cases like mine?

Most misdemeanor and lower-level criminal matters in Massachusetts go through one of the District Court's 62 divisions statewide, or — within the City of Boston — the Boston Municipal Court, which holds concurrent jurisdiction. Probation conditions, including any anger-management requirement, are set and monitored by the Massachusetts Probation Service, the nation's oldest probation agency, established in 1878. Your specific conditions come from your judge or probation officer, not from us, so always confirm requirements directly with them.

Will my court accept this certificate?

Yes — backed by our Court Acceptance Guarantee. Our courses are accepted by courts in all 50 states. Full refund if your court doesn't accept it — send us proof within 30 days.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The price you see is the full price. Your certificate, your Proof of Enrollment letter, and certificate verification are all included — we never charge extra for the documents your court needs.

Your course includes one attempt at the final test. Retakes are optional extras: you can add Unlimited Retakes right after you enroll, or buy a retake later if you don't pass — always at the price shown before you pay.

How long does the course take?

Most students complete their course in one sitting. You can also stop and resume anytime — your progress is automatically saved.

When do I get my certificate?

Immediately. As soon as you complete the course, your certificate is ready to download. You can print it or email it directly to your attorney or probation officer.

How do I know which course length I need?

Check your court order or ask your attorney — the required hours are usually written in your court paperwork, plea agreement, or sentencing recommendation.

  • 4 hours: the most common order we see — typical for first-time or minor incidents
  • 8 hours: common for misdemeanor charges
  • 12 hours: required by some state courts for repeat or more serious incidents
  • 16 hours: the safe choice — it covers every standard requirement up to 16 hours
  • 20 or 24 hours: for orders that name those lengths — everything in the 16-hour course, plus hands-on Skills Workshops

When in doubt, choose more hours. Courts accept a longer certificate than ordered — never a shorter one. Still unsure? Take the 60-second quiz and we'll recommend the right length.

What will I learn in this anger management course?

Real skills, not filler. The curriculum is written by Tiffany Gorham, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. You'll learn how to:

  • Spot your personal triggers and early warning signs
  • Calm yourself down in the moment
  • Communicate through difficult conversations
  • Manage stress and emotions for the long term

40% of our reviews mention "learned a lot" — even from students who enrolled just to satisfy a court order.

Can I take this course on my phone or tablet?

Yes — it works on any phone, tablet, or computer, right in your web browser. No app to download. Over half of our students finish entirely on their phone.

Switch devices anytime — your progress syncs automatically. If you can send a text, you can take this course.

What if I fail a quiz? Can I retake it?

There's one final test at the end, with practice questions after each lesson to get you ready. The questions come straight from the course material, and 98% of students pass on their first try.

Want a safety net? Unlimited Retakes is offered right after you enroll: one payment, then retake the final test as many times as you need. Without it, if you don't pass, you can buy a retake at the price shown before you pay.

What information is included on the certificate?

Everything courts typically require: your full legal name, the course title and hours (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, or 24 — matching your enrollment), your completion date, a unique certificate ID with QR code for verification, and Courseable's provider details.

It's a professional PDF — print it or email it straight to your attorney, probation officer, or court clerk.

Can I get proof of enrollment before completing the course?

Yes — it's automatic. As soon as you enroll and complete the short intake form, we email you an official Proof of Enrollment letter. It shows your name, the course and its hours, your enrollment date and a reference number, plus your court and case number if you add them — ready to share with your attorney, court, or probation officer.

What's the difference between self-paced and weekly courses?

Same material, same certificate — the difference is pace:

  • Self-paced: finish as fast as you like, even in one sitting.
  • Weekly: one lesson unlocks per week, so a 12-week course takes at least 12 weeks. Only choose this if your court order specifically requires weekly sessions.

If your order just says "12-hour anger management course" without mentioning weekly sessions, the self-paced 12-hour course fulfills it.

Order names a number of weeks? See the 8-week, 10-week, 12-week or 16-week anger management class.

My order says an in-person, group, or live class. Does a self-paced course count?

Usually not — and you shouldn't risk it. If your paperwork specifically says in person, group, live, or instructor-led, a self-paced course may not satisfy it.

That's what our live weekly anger management class is for: a real class over Zoom with a licensed instructor, one 2-hour class each week, 2 to 12 weeks depending on your order. You join any week, your instructor verifies attendance at roll call, and your certificate states the weeks you attended. From $36 a class, backed by the same Court Acceptance Guarantee.

If your order just names a number of hours, the self-paced course on this page is the faster path.

Is this course a Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP)?

No, this is not a Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP). These are two different types of programs:

  • Anger Management Course (this course): Teaches general skills for managing anger, communication, and emotional regulation. Typically 4–24 hours.
  • Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP): A specialized program specifically for domestic violence cases, usually requiring 52 weeks of attendance.

If your court order specifically requires a "Batterer's Intervention Program," "BIP," or "52-week domestic violence program," this course will NOT satisfy that requirement.

Check your court paperwork carefully. If it says "anger management" without mentioning BIP or domestic violence intervention, our course will meet your needs.

I was ordered to take an impulse control or decision-making class — is that this course?

No — that's a separate course, and we offer it too. Courts order impulse control & decision-making classes for charges like petty theft, disorderly conduct, or first-offense diversion, while anger management covers anger-related orders. If your paperwork says "impulse control," "decision-making," "thinking errors," or "making better choices," enroll in that class instead — same instant certificate and the same Court Acceptance Guarantee.

I took the 8-hour course and I learnt a lot. The course content is very high quality. It's direct, to the point, and precise. It was also the cheapest 8-hour course I could find online that was court-approved. And best of all, my court accepted the certificate without any issues.
