Tennessee is a permitless- (constitutional-) carry state for eligible adults. Tennessee enacted permitless carry in 2021, allowing adults 21 and older who may legally possess a handgun to carry openly or concealed without a permit or training requirement. A court-ordered or voluntary gun-safety education course is separate from any purchase- or carry-permit requirement — this course is for court-ordered safety education and does not by itself grant or satisfy a carry permit.
